God took home one of his saints last week who knew plenty about physical suffering and disability.
Mike Stohmeyer was a great friend of Desiring God. A tribute to his life, and his wife, can be found on Desiring God’s blog.
But even better, listen to him for yourself in this 3 1/2 minute video:
May we all join him in saying, “my faith is real!”
I can so relate to what he says on this video about deep suffering & when it seems everything is taken away from you. Even in the midst of a deep depression & I questioned where God was & my own faith, I couldn’t give up because as the apostles said to Jesus when He asked them, “Are you going to leave too?” They said, “Where would we go, Lord, You have the answers to life (or the truth or something like that).” Those words were in my heart each time I pondered these questions while laying upon my bed too exhausted & in pain to get up for more than a few hours a day. Over time, my strength gradually increased by the Lord’s amazing grace & I was able to dig deep into His Word at a more focused & passionate level than ever before. The journey continues today as I am still quite limited & homebound, but the suffering as produced perseverance in me to seek Him out in everyway possible in my limiting circumstances. His love is better than anything this world can offer me. The opportunity to love Him through praise & worship is treasure far outweighing all other. I so long for the day I will be able to praise Him with never ending energy & strength with the new body at resurrection.
