I was reviewing some verses on disability and was pausing over Isaiah 29:17-18:
Is it not yet a very little while
until Lebanon shall be turned into a fruitful field,
and the fruitful field shall be regarded as a forest?
In that day the deaf shall hear
the words of a book,
and out of their gloom and darkness
the eyes of the blind shall see. Isaiah 29:17-18
In the notes in my old MacArthur Study Bible on Isaiah 29:18 it referenced Isaiah 35:5:
Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened,
and the ears of the deaf unstopped;
then shall the lame man leap like a deer,
and the tongue of the mute sing for joy. Isaiah 35:5-6a
And that same note also referenced Matthew 11:5:
4 And Jesus answered them,“Go and tell John what you hear and see: 5 the blind receive their sight and the lame walk, lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear, and the dead are raised up, and the poor have good news preached to them.” Matthew 11:4-5
How great is that!
Yes, Jesus is Lord over all creation!
John, I watched your interview with John Piper and it moved me to tears. I am newly disabled, as of February, having a double amputation due to diabetes–of my right leg below the knee. I am 53, and was never in the hospital before that, except to be born and to give birth to my daughter. I have a wonderful, Godly husband, Jim, who serves me so lovingly, like Jesus…like you serve your wife and son Paul, I would imagine.
Well, today I slipped and fell from my walker onto the floor, hitting the carpet pretty hard. My little leg (as I call my stump) was pretty bruised, as were my arms and hands. I couldn’t get up by myself, and had to call Jim on my cell; thank the Lord for this technology!! All day since then I’ve just felt very, very low in my spirits, and have been in bed the whole time. Just a few minutes ago, I read your blog post on the lame man walking…and oh, how that has cheered and lifted me up, John! How great is that, indeed!!! My heart leaped, and one day, my body will again, too!!! Praise to God Who loves all of us!!
I posted this on my Facebook Wall, where I often share your things; they bless me so much and I just know they will bless many others, too. 🙂 If you are on FB, please look me up so I can add you to my Friends list.
Also, ever since I watched you and Pastor John’s interview(s), I pray for you and your family every day, and the disability ministry. (I also pray for Pastor John, his wife Noel, and y’all’s church as a whole, every day.) Before the interview, I never heard of such, but how thrilling it’s real!!
God bless you, brother. Philippians 1:3, I thank God upon every remembrance of you. 🙂
