A reminder that we are not only called to serve others, but to be served by those who are considered weak.
Attributed to Dietrich Bonhoeffer:
In a Christian community, everything depends upon whether each individual is an indispensable link in a chain. Only when even the smallest link is securely interlocked is the chain unbreakable. . .
Every Christian community must realize that not only do the weak need the strong, but also that the strong cannot exist without the weak. The elimination of the weak is the death of the fellowship.
Would anyone know from which of his works this quote comes?
My guess was Life Together, so I googled that title along with key words from the quote and found this: http://bonhoefferblog.wordpress.com/2008/06/20/bonhoeffer-on-the-ministry-of-holding-ones-tongue-part-three/
Thanks for this, John.
It is indeed Life Together by Dietrich Bonheoffer. I actually just finished reading that chapter this morning, when I stumbled across this blog. I have an older brother with cerebral palsey, and though it hasn’t been easy, God has been so gracious to him and our family. Thanks for writing this blog! IT has offered much encouragement!
